Infrastructure Surveying
Control networks, setout, as-builts and monitoring on civil, rail and motorway projects.
Scope
Survey support across the programme, from the primary control network through setout and as-builts to monitoring and data delivery. We work under main contractors and alliances, and directly for asset owners.
- Primary control networks, site grids and periodic control checks
- Construction setout for structures, tunnels, earthworks and services
- As-built survey and independent verification against design
- Scheduled settlement monitoring and real-time deflection monitoring with agreed trigger levels
- Drone capture for progress, volumes and inspection, under CAA Part 102
- 3D laser scanning and scan to BIM for as-built records and clash checking
- Property and cadastral survey: designation, road stopping and easement plans
- Machine control support: GNSS base stations, model preparation and independent verification
Auckland Council accepts Certified Professional Engineering Surveyors for sign-off. We hold it. What the surveying certifications actually mean.

Infrastructure we work on
Current GeoSurvey engagements on major New Zealand infrastructure.
- City Rail Link: property survey delivery for City Rail Link Ltd, including the strata the tunnels pass through, protection areas, and road stopping and easement applications.
- Papakura to Drury: survey support and drone capture for the main contractor, alongside a real-time deflection monitoring system on a retaining wall.
Michael Cutfield's earlier infrastructure roles, on City Rail Link C3, Puhoi to Warkworth, Waterview Connection and Victoria Park Tunnel, were delivered in his roles with the organisations named there, not by GeoSurvey.
Frequently asked questions
What do you do on an infrastructure project?
Primary control, construction setout, as-built survey, monitoring and data delivery. On most jobs we work as an extension of the contractor's survey team across the programme rather than as a one-off visit.
Do you work as a subcontractor to the main contractor?
Yes. We work under main contractors and alliances, and directly for asset owners. We can work to your coordinate system, your deliverable formats and your quality requirements.
Can you establish and hold a primary control network?
Yes. We establish control suited to the works, document it so it can be checked, and re-observe it periodically so the network stays trustworthy as the job moves.
What monitoring can you run alongside the works?
Scheduled settlement and movement monitoring, and real-time deflection monitoring using an automated total station with agreed trigger levels and automatic alerts.
Can you handle designation, road stopping and easement survey?
Yes. That work needs a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor, and it is a significant part of what we do on City Rail Link.
Do you work outside Auckland?
Yes. We work regularly from Northland through the Waikato, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty, and elsewhere in New Zealand by arrangement.
