Emlid GNSS
Specified, configured and supported by surveyors who run them daily.
Scope
We run Emlid receivers on our own jobs, which is the only reason we are comfortable selling them. Hardware comes through Ferntech, the authorised Emlid distributor in New Zealand. What we add is the part that usually goes wrong on your own: choosing the right unit, setting up coordinate systems and corrections properly for New Zealand, integrating it with what you already use, and picking up the phone when something is not fixing on site.
- Emlid Reach RS4, RS3 and RX2 receivers, specified to the work you actually do
- Base and rover configuration, fixed semi-permanent base or movable day-to-day base
- Emlid Flow setup: projects, coordinate systems, feature codes and export formats
- New Zealand datum setup done properly: NZGD2000, NZTM and local circuit or site grids
- NTRIP and correction service configuration, including your own base as a correction source
- Integration with machine control, setout and CAD workflows
- On-site or in-office training for your crew
- Ongoing support and troubleshooting from a licensed survey practice

Who it is for
Earthworks contractors
Run your own base and stop waiting on a surveyor for every set of levels. We set it up so the numbers are right, then check your work when it matters.
Builders and site managers
Setout, levels and checks you can do yourself, with a surveyor behind you for the parts that need certifying.
Councils and asset owners
Field data capture that lands in the right coordinate system first time, ready for your GIS or asset system.
Surveyors and consultancies
A second or third rover without a second mortgage, configured to match your existing workflow.
The receivers
Reach RS4
Multi-band GNSS with built-in LoRa and tilt compensation. Our workhorse, and the unit in our machine control case study.
Reach RS3
Multi-band GNSS with tilt compensation. Strong all-rounder for survey and setout.
Reach RX2
Compact network rover. Light, quick to deploy, ideal as a second unit or for straightforward pickup and setout.
Indicative pricing, subject to change. We confirm current pricing, GST treatment and availability when you enquire. Hardware is supplied through Ferntech, the authorised Emlid distributor in New Zealand.
How we work
Work out what you need
A quick conversation about the jobs you do. There is no point selling you a base station if a network rover covers it.
Supply
Hardware is ordered through Ferntech, the New Zealand Emlid distributor.
Setup and configuration
Coordinate systems, corrections, projects and export formats configured for how you work, before it reaches site.
Training and support
We show your crew how to use it, then stay available when something does not behave.
Frequently asked questions
Which Emlid receiver should I buy?
It depends on whether you need your own base. The RX2 is a network rover, so it needs an existing correction service. The RS3 and RS4 can work as base or rover, which matters on sites with poor cellular coverage or where you want full control of your corrections. Tell us the jobs you do and we will tell you which one, including if the answer is none of them.
Do you supply the hardware, or does Ferntech?
Ferntech is the authorised Emlid distributor in New Zealand and the hardware comes through them. We handle the specification, configuration, integration, training and support around it. You can buy direct from Ferntech and come to us for setup, or we can arrange the lot.
Can you set it up for New Zealand coordinate systems?
Yes, and this is where most self-setups come unstuck. We configure NZGD2000, NZTM, local circuit projections and site grids, plus the geoid model, so your heights and coordinates are right rather than nearly right.
Can you train our team?
Yes. On site or in our office, aimed at the people who will actually use it. Most crews need half a day to be genuinely competent, not a manual.
What happens when it will not fix on site?
You ring us. We support what we set up, which is the difference between buying from a surveyor and buying from a box shifter.
Can an Emlid base drive machine control?
Yes. We documented exactly that in a case study with Ferntech and Map Gear: an RS4 base running machine guidance, first from a survey pole moved around site, then fixed in a permanent position once the best spot was confirmed. Estimated return on investment was under two years.
Is it cheaper than hiring a surveyor?
For repetitive setout and levels on your own sites, usually yes, and quickly. For anything that needs certifying, boundary definition or legal sign-off, you still need a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor. We will be straight with you about which is which.
